Breif Profile

Summary:

This project aims to assess and document the mountain communities' livelihood strategy which is essential in creating a sustainable approach to managing ecosystems in the mountains. Eastern Himalayas is also a part of the Hindu Kush Himalaya and is also stated as a critically important geo-ecological zone. In Hindu Kush Himalayan there are 10 major river basins where my focus would be only two major river basins namely the Brahmaputra, and the Ganges. The main focus would be on the Brahmaputra river basin and is proposed to consider the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and other relevant frameworks proposed for this region to address sustainable development goals. While doing so, the most important framework such as Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Nature-based solutions would be put to use. The results of the project are to address the inequalities and the way forward to achieve sustainable developmental goals. The product of this research would be useful for researchers, students, decision-makers and policy makers.

Main Objectives of Project:

• 1. Enrich understanding of mountain ecosystems and draw attention to unique opportunities and challenges of mountain ecosystems concerning biodiversity conservation, and cultural diversity 2. Share knowledge concerning traditional ecological knowledge systems, local communities and relevant mountain ecosystems. 3. Document development policies and their relevance to mountain ecosystems management linking biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation and sustainable development. 4. Enhance the linkages with experts from other regions around the world concerning disciplinary outlook.
